Bowling column for Tuesday, October 27, 2020

–CA STATE REGULATIONS KEEP US IN A HOLDING PATTERN
Today Kern County was not allowed to move from the red tier into the orange tier as we did not meet two of Kern’s metrics or those metrics did not meet the requirements (thanks for update/info Zack Newman!). If we had moved into the orange tier today, then we could assume Fall bowling leagues would have been able to start the first week or so of November. That was the plan. But now, this puts us about 2-3 weeks out. According to Jose Zamudio, AMF Southwest Lanes manager, he will be doing a regional call tomorrow to find out more information for us.
–STEPHANIE SANDERS WINS SAN JOAQUIN BOWLING CLUB SINGLES EVENT
Stephanie Sanders decided to try bowling the San Joaquin Bowling Club Singles tournament that was held this past Sun., October 25th, at Freeway Lanes in Selma. So she and Alex Garcia traveled up north to try this event out.
And she exclaims, “To my surprise, I took first place!” But we are not surprised as she has been placing in other recent tournaments up against some pretty steep competition. For this event she put together games of 267, 235, 203, 192 & 222 (and those were scratch scores!). Also, she had a 705 for her first 3 games! She threw her Alpha Jackal and Jackal Ghost. She won $470 for her first place win.
Congratulations Stephanie on this big win and big that she won it as it was a handicap event! Alex didn’t do so bad himself shooting games of 211, 203, 277, 269 & 191 (guess that wrist injury is gone!), and he ended up placing 6th to cash as well!
–PATRICIA ALONSO & JOE SMITH PLACE AT CBT DOUBLES & SINGLES EVENT IN ST. GEORGE, UTAH
Patricia Alonso, along with Joe Smith & Andrew Svoren, traveled to St. George, Utah to bowl in the CBT Doubles & Singles event this past weekend (Oct. 24-25), at Sunset Lanes.
Patricia ended up placing twice in the Doubles—4th place with Brandon Simcox and 5thplace with Jason Biber. And Patricia Alonso won some Super Pot bucks in Squad 2, Game 1.
Joe Smith, aka Fred Flintstone won some bucks in the Squad 1 Super Pot, Game 3 & in Squad 4, Game 1 & Squad 4, Game 2. Then Joe/Fred won BIG bucks in the Scratch payouts placing 2nd, 3rd, and 5th for $370. And, he placed 11th in the Singles!
–NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM CUSBC
The California USBC Board met on Sept. 29, and have made the following decisions:
–The 2021 Adult State Championships to be held at Forest Lanes in Lake Forest have been cancelled due to the unknow future of the centers reopening and the unknown capacity that the centers can hold once they do reopen.
–The 2021 Pepsi Youth Championships will be District (March) and State Finals (May) only. League level qualifying is removed. Only current California youth that are entered in a 2020-21 USBC certified league can participate. Youth Directors will be emailed a tournament packet by November 1st and hard copy packets by December. If centers are still closed by February 1, this event will unfortunately have to cancel.
–All other CUSBC events will be addressed next year.

–BOWL.COM HAS YOUR BOOK AVERAGE LISTED
With the delay in Fall/Winter leagues getting to start, did you know you can look up what your Book Average is on Bowl.com? You can also purchase your 2020-21 sanction card or wait until leagues do start and purchase your card through your first day/night of league bowling.
–TOURNAMENT CLUB CANCELLATIONS CONTINUE
Be sure to check with the tournament director whether an upcoming event is a go or not as it changes from day-to-day, even hour-to-hour! Many of them are trying their darndest to provide events for bowlers to compete in but are up against city, county and state health regulations.
