–Fall Leagues start this week!

Welcome to the 2019-20 Fall bowling season. Hope you plan to join a league or two and support local bowling. If you are unsure of which league to join, just drop by on the day or night you wish to bowl about a half hour before league starts and see if there are any openings. AMF Southwest has quite a few leagues offered as well as The BLVD! Some leagues to consider:
–Tues. night, “Mexican-American Trios” at AMF Southwest Lanes, started Sept. 3rd, 6:30pm. Looking for women to fill some teams.
–Mon. night, “Monday Ladies” formerly Tuesday Ladies Handicap at AMF Southwest Lanes, starts Sept. 9th, 6:15pm (meeting first night at 5:45), openings for individuals or teams of four.

Joining a league is a great way to meet friends. All leagues are handicap which levels the field for everyone. Hope to see you on the lanes!

–Central Valley Masters Fundraiser for a Friend – Sun., Sept. 15, 8am-1pm

Central Valley Masters to the rescue! They have put together a Giant Yard Sale for a friend of many bowlers, Jennifer Lomeli, who recently lost practically everything in a house fire. For those of you that don’t remember who Jennifer is, she worked for years in the snack bar at Regency.

This yard sale will take place at 915 – 17th Street (corner of 17th & O) with an array of donated items for sale plus craft sale items, furniture, clothes, tools, shoes, toys and much more. If you have some gently-used items you would like to donate or new items, please contact John Curtis at 661/900-4559. Or, if you don’t have anything to donate, stop by and purchase something to contribute to this effort!

–Save the Date – GEUSBC 3 Generation Trios, Sat., Sept. 21, AMF Southwest Lanes

It was a hit last year so it’s back! The 3 Generation Trios tournament is a fundraiser for our local GEUSBC youth program. There are two squads offered—10am or 2pm. Trios teams are comprised of (1) Youth bowler (20 & under); (1) Adult bowler (21-49); and (1) Senior bowler (50 & up). Cost to enter is $70 per trios team ($20 for Youth and $25/ea. for Adult & Senior) for three games of competition. It is a handicap tournament (80% of 220). Side pots & Brackets will also be available. For more info or to get signed up, email info@geusbc.org.

–Did you know?

Your GEUSBC Board of Directors are scheduled to be attending your league meetings and sharing information with you regarding your local association and what events are coming up that you could be involved in. Feel free to ask them about any league concerns you have.

Also, did you know ALL GEUSBC board members have to be RVP (Registered Volunteer Program) certified in order to serve on our board? Besides passing a test to be certified, a background check is also conducted.

–Weekly Super Scores
– Congratulations and a sad farewell to Jack & Michelle Dunn who moved this past week to Live Oak which is a town up in northern CA near Yuba City. But Jack left us with some high scores from his league plus he and Michelle, along with Mike & LaDonna Helton, went Monterey the weekend of Aug. 23-25, to compete in the 2019 CUSBC State Senior Singles Tournament held at Monterey Lanes. Jack kept up his striking ways and ended up taking first place in his division (Men’s 70-74)!! Congratulations Jack Dunn!!
Mike Helton was sitting at 5th place in the Men’s 60-64 division; Michelle Dunn was sitting at 10th place in the Women’s 65-69 division and LaDonna Helton was 22nd in the Women’s 60-64 division so all cashed!!
-Congratulations to both Robert Fox and Roy Jones who bowled in the ABT So Cal event held at Deer Creek Lanes and made the cut on Sat., Aug. 31st. Robert Fox qualified in 5th position at +94 with a 694 and Roy squeaked in qualifying 12th at +71 with a 671. Although neither ended up placing, Roy Jones won the 900 Global Flux bowling ball given away at the event!
-Congratulations to Mike Bost for winning the Visalia Masters this past weekend at Bowlero Visalia Lanes and to Barb Francisco for winning second place! Mike won $500 for winning the tournament which drew 42 bowlers.

–Condolences & Sympathy
– We lost Joe Granillo on Aug. 20th. Joe was an active bowler in the Mexican-American mixed league at Regency years ago. He was 73. Services were held back on Aug. 30th at Greenlawn Southwest. For further info or to leave a message, go to www.bakersfield.com/obits.

Special thanks/could not have done this without the help of Central Valley Masters guys—John Curtis & Ian Byers. Thanks to Chris Gregory, Donnie Applie and RJ Richardson for bowling as well. And, don’t forget to contact Danielle Looney for your very own Coffee Club t-shirt!!

NEW! NEW! Coffee Club is on Sunday mornings NOW starting soon after 12:00 noon at AMF Southwest Lanes. Cost to enter is $25 for 4 games, blind doubles draw. Optional high pots, singles, and 3-6-9. Handicapped and fun bowling with some great local bowlers! And, once a month, a No-Tap Tournament will be scheduled!!

**Strike Pot is a new game we started. It’s about purchasing raffle tickets for $1 each (max. $5 total per person). During the second game we draw one ticket and that person must bowl a strike for the cash in the pot. If a strike isn’t bowled, then that person gets $10 and the amount is rolled over. If a person misses a week or more and chooses to participate for the total, they must pay $5 per week missed; if not, they only get amount raised that day if their ticket is drawn and they bowl a strike.

NEWER! NEWER!! Danielle Looney has created Coffee Club Tee’s!! She is selling them for $20 each and they are available in a variety of colors. You can also have your name put on them (it can be placed on the front below the logo or on the back across the shoulders) for a total cost of $25. If you would like to sport one of these, send Danielle Looney a message on Facebook and you are set!
