–GEUSBC 2019-20 Awards Banquet In The Books

The Stockdale Moose Lodge was buzzing on Sat., January 25th. The day started out early with the Youth Pancake Breakfast from 7:30am-11am. GEUSBC Youth VP Gabriella Mayfield had her crew flipping flapjacks and serving. The morning went by fast and the next order of business was to prepare the Lodge for the Awards Banquet that evening.

This was GEUSBC President Zack Long’s first Awards Banquet to oversee and he wanted everything to be perfect. When the Awards Banquet attendees started arriving he got the news that the scheduled DJ was not going to be able to be there. Oh, no, besides being the DJ for music for the night, that was also the PA system! GEUSBC Board member Norris Richards to the rescue! Before we knew it, all was handled!

GEUSBC Board members Jana Richardson and Lorri Howell were busy trying to get those that arrived checked in and seated and get their dinner selections handled while Janet and Phil Cook took meat orders. Lorene Elijah was busy snapping pictures of everyone after they got settled at their tables. Danielle Looney was preparing her area for taking pictures of the night’s award winners. And before you knew it, the evening’s festivities were underway.

The BVL Division winners were first up to receive their awards; then the City Championship Tournament winners; then the Youth Scholarship Recipient was announced which was Nolan Byers. And before Nolan could get back to his seat, it was announced that he was also chosen to receive the Inaugural Randy Carter Youth Sportsmanship Award which was presented by Randall Carter.

Next up was the Bowlers of the Year presentations. This year the Bowlers of the Year were divided into two categories—Competitive and Bowler at Large. The Youth Committee followed along with these two categories as well. For the Adults, Zack Newman and Gabriella Mayfield were the Bowlers of the Year – Competitive and Jesse DeLaHerran and Lorri Howell were the Bowlers of the Year – At Large. For the Youth, Taylor Del Tiempo and McKenna Powers were the Bowlers of the Year – Competitive and Ben Regpala and Queona Reyes were the Bowlers of the Year – At Large. Congratulations to all!!

After that the Hall of Fame/Class of 2020 Inductees were presented and recognized and they were: Phil Cook for Superior Performance; Tim Henson for Superior Performance & Meritorious Service; Tammy Sibley for Superior Performance; and Mike Mayo for Meritorious Service.

–AMF Southwest Renovation Begins

The long-awaited renovation is starting the week of February 3rd.

Business and leagues will be minimally impacted during business hours. Most of the construction will be done during the overnight hours.

Areas impacted during this process will be the meeting room and lockers which will be eliminated to make room for Robb’s brand new Pro Shop. (For those of you that have lockers at AMF Southwest, you will need your items removed and turn in your keys by Thurs., February 6th.)

Your understanding is appreciated and AMF Southwest Lanes hopes you will look forward to the upgrades this remodel will bring.

–Save the Date—2020 Annie Schierlitz Youth/Adult Doubles Tournament, Sat., March 7th

–Our Sincere Condolences
– On Wed., January 22nd, we lost Wanda Thompson. Wanda was past-President of the Bakersfield Women’s Bowling Association. She served in that position for 12 years. She was also a member of our GEUSBC Hall of Fame inducted in 2003 for Meritorious Service. She was 86. Graveside Services were held on Fri., January 31 at Greenlawn Northeast (River Blvd.).
– On Tues., January 28th, we suddenly lost Michael Paul Alexander. Although Mike had not bowled for years, he was always at bowling with his wife, Peggy. Mike was 79. A Celebration of Life was held on Sat., February 1st at Crossover Church of Rosedale. Please keep Peggy in your prayers through this difficult time. She had just returned to bowling less than a month ago as she was recovering from a shoulder injury and had not bowled at all this season.

–Weekly Super Scores
– Consistent bowling by our GEUSBC President, Zack Long, on Thurs., January 23rd, bowling in the Stockdale Open league at AMF Southwest Lanes. He rolled games of 256-258-257 for a 771 series, wow!
– Congratulations to Mr. Chris Garcia, who shot his third career 300 game on Thurs., January 23rd, bowling in the Lowenders league at AMF Southwest Lanes. He’s bowling Lowenders, but the league this year is bowling on the HIGH end of the center and he likes those lanes!!
– Congratulations to Andrew Svoren who added yet another 300 game to his career on Wed., January 29th, bowling in the Las Vegas league at AMF Southwest Lanes. He also had a heck of a series too, a 797! He was throwing the Track Triton Elite.

–Coffee Club – NOTE: Coffee Club will return this Sun., February 9, at 12 noon to AMF Southwest Lanes!

Coffee Club is on Sunday mornings at 12 noon at AMF Southwest Lanes (or sometimes at Mt. Mesa Lanes in Lake Isabella with starting time at 10am). Cost to enter is $20 for 4 games, blind doubles draw. Optional high pots, singles, and 3-6-9. Handicapped and fun bowling with some great local bowlers! And, once a month, a No-Tap Tournament will be scheduled!!

**Strike Pot is a new game we started. It’s about purchasing raffle tickets for $5 each. During the second game we draw one ticket and that person must bowl a strike for the cash in the pot. If a strike isn’t bowled, then that person gets $10 and the amount is rolled over. If a person misses a week or more and chooses to participate for the total, they must pay $5 per week missed; if not, they only get amount raised that day if their ticket is drawn and they bowl a strike.

GET THEM WHILE THEY LAST!! Danielle Looney has created Coffee Club Tee’s!! She is selling them for $20 each and they are available in a variety of colors. You can also have your name put on them (it can be placed on the front below the logo or on the back across the shoulders) for a total cost of $25. If you would like to sport one of these, send Danielle Looney a message on Facebook and you are set!
