–GEUSBC BVL Roll-Off Tournament is This Sunday at AMF Southwest Lanes

The 2019 GEUSBC Marge Langdon BVL Tournament will take place this Sun., December 15th with squads at 9am & 1pm, at AMF Southwest Lanes. The BVL In-League Tournament has been taking place the last two weeks from Sun., December 1st thru Sat., December 14th. Check the Golden Empire USBC website (www.geusbc.org) or like them on Facebook “Golden Empire USBC” for updated information.

Hopefully you bowled a series you are happy with if you entered the BVL In-League Tournament. If not, feel free to come bowl the BVL Tournament this Sunday. The entry fee is $30. You can enter multiple times (both In-League and the Sunday BVL Tournament). All your scores will be listed in your division each time you enter (In-League or BVL Tournament).

The BVL Tournament (both In-League and Tournament) are different as not only do you bowl in divisions based on your book but men bowl against men, women against women and the youth have their divisions and boys are against boys and girls against girls. If you don’t have a book average then your current average (with 21 games or more) will be used. Divisions are as follows for the adults:
Men: 191 & Over – Classic; 170-190 – A; 151-169 – B; 131-150 – C; 130 & under – D.
Women: 181 & Over – Classic; 166-180 – A; 151-165 – B; 136-150 – C; 121-135 – D; 120 & under – E.
Youth (Boy/Girl): 201 & Over – Classic; 180-200 – A; 155-179 – B; 130-154 – C; 105 – 129 – D; 104 & under – E.
Winners of each division will represent GEUSBC and bowl in the 2020 Helen Duval BVL State Classic Tournament on Sat., March 28th at Rancho Bowl in Santa Maria.

Did you know BVL is bowling’s oldest charity? It is now in its 77th year, founded in 1942.

California has been the top state for BVL contributions the last several years thanks to your donations. Today there are 3.9 million disabled vets who have come back from battle with physical and emotional disabilities and many of these men and women suffer from PTSD and need the recreational services BVL provides to help them better cope with this frightening disorder. The Veteran’s Clinic here in Bakersfield on Westwind benefits from our donations to BVL. For further information about BVL, go to www.bowlforveterans.org.

–Central Valley Masters’ 4th “Christmas for Kids” is a Wrap!

Last Sunday AMF Southwest Lanes was transformed into a Christmas wonderland and bowlers were decked out in their favorite holiday outfits bowling and having a great time. The event even brought out some bowlers who have been away from the sport like Jeff Ellington and Robert Tweedy to come out and bowl and support this fundraiser.

The bowling tournament portion drew 68 entries and it was obvious that it didn’t matter if you were bowling good or not, everyone was having a good time! Christmas music was filling the air, winning raffle numbers were being announced and there was plenty of different ways those there could get in the spirit of the event and help raise money for some local needy families and have a blast doing it. Besides a general raffle, there was a silent auction going on, a super raffle with not one but three long tables of items to try and win and a 50/50.

And raise money they did to the tune of $4,700! Thanks to everyone who took the time to stop by and join in.

Congratulations to the tournament winners—Frank Isbell (Adult division) and Queona Reyes (Youth division). Donnie Apple won the Best Ball Challenge.

“We want to thank all that donated and bowled and came to support this event we put on. It is the most important event to us to put on every year.” Greg Barraza, Jr./CVM Director.

Added CVM President John Curtis, “I want to thank everyone who came out to support our 4th annual Christmas Fundraiser at AMF Southwest Lanes. The generosity of the bowling community is always amazing. Nothing brings people closer than a good cause. The weather did not put a damper on the day one bit. There were so many donations from homemade items to gift cards and baskets. I want to thank everyone who was involved in this event. Thank you to my CVM brothers and families who help out every year. Thank you to all the people that donated the prizes. I want to thank AMF Southwest Lanes for hosting this event. I hope we can return next year. This event is close to my heart and can’t tell you what it means to me on a personal level. There are too many names of people I want to thank personally but don’t want to miss anyone so I will just say I am blessed to have all you in my life. No matter what we are going through, today we are one big family raising money for children during Christmas and that says it all!”

–Gabriella Mayfield Re-Signs with Motiv

Shout out to Mt. Mesa Lanes’ Gabriella Mayfield who recently re-signed her contract with Motiv for the fourth year. “I can’t say enough how amazing this company is, not only to me, but to the entire bowling industry. I haven’t been able to bowl due to another elbow injury, but knowing that a company still stands behind you through it all, is pretty incredible. I’m very blessed and lucky to be a part of such a great team for another year!” said Gabby Mayfield.

–AMF Westchester Lanes

The latest on what will become of what was once AMF Westchester Lanes is the lanes are being removed and the area that was the lanes will become a banquet hall. Mossman’s Westchester Bowl Coffee Shop remains open and may use the banquet hall as well when it is finished.

–Yosemite Lanes Scratch 6 Gamer this Sun., December 15th in Modesto

This Sunday will be the December Scratch 6 Gamer at Yosemite Lanes. Check in starts at 11am; bowling starts at 12 noon. Entry fee is $60. There will be added money so 1 in every 3 entries will cash, and they will have step-ladder finals. The pattern for this tournament will be the PBA Dragon pattern (45 feet). Optional brackets, High Game Pot, Last Game Pot and senior insurance will also be available. This is also your last chance to qualify for this year’s Tournament of Champions which will take place on December 29th. For further info, contact Wayne Garber at 209/524-9161.

Optional high pots, singles, and 3-6-9. Handicapped and fun bowling with some great local bowlers! And, once a month, a No-Tap Tournament will be scheduled!!

**Strike Pot is a new game we started. It’s about purchasing raffle tickets for $5 each. During the second game we draw one ticket and that person must bowl a strike for the cash in the pot. If a strike isn’t bowled, then that person gets $10 and the amount is rolled over. If a person misses a week or more and chooses to participate for the total, they must pay $5 per week missed; if not, they only get amount raised that day if their ticket is drawn and they bowl a strike.

GET THEM WHILE THEY LAST!! Danielle Looney has created Coffee Club Tee’s!! She is selling them for $20 each and they are available in a variety of colors. You can also have your name put on them (it can be placed on the front below the logo or on the back across the shoulders) for a total cost of $25. If you would like to sport one of these, send Danielle Looney a message on Facebook and you are set!
