–Central Valley Masters Scratch Open This Weekend at AMF Southwest Lanes

Scratch bowlers from across the state will be coming to town to compete in this great tournament with a guaranteed purse of $5,000 for 1st place guaranteed! If that doesn’t get your attention, don’t know what will!

Qualifying squads on Saturday are at either 10am or 3pm. Cost to enter is $200 with side pots included in this fee. Qualifying will be 7 games. Optional brackets available. One in five will advance to Sunday’s Final. (Match Play starts at 9am on Sunday morning.)

–Yosemite Lanes Scratch 6-Gamer This Sunday in Modesto

If you don’t make the Finals of the Central Valley Masters, don’t forget about this event! Check-in starts at 11am, bowling starts at 12 noon. Entry fee is $60. We will cash 1 in every 3 bowlers thanks again to sponsorship of Freddy’s Tree Service. The optional Win-A-Spot is an extra $40 and will go to the highest 6-game qualifier of those who participate in the Win-A-Spot. Optional brackets, high game pots, last game pot and senior insurance (for those 50 and older) will also be available.

This Sunday will be on the PBA Don Johnson pattern (40 feet). This will be the same pattern that will be used for the 13th annual PBA/PBA50 Vanessa Brown Homes Western Regional at Yosemite Lanes May 24-27. And, this is the same pattern that will be used at the PBA50 national event at Brentwood May 27-31.

–Central Valley Masters’ Officers Team Up and Win San Joaquin Bowling Club Doubles In Visalia

CVM President John Curtis teamed up with VP Chris Gregory to bowl the San Joaquin Bowling Club Doubles event held on Sun., May 6 at Bowlero Visalia Lanes. They competed in a field of 22 teams and emerged as the event champions winning $500. Other bowlers from Bakersfield that competed were Jeff Ellington & Billy Weeks, placing 8th, Bobby Long & Chuck Grove and Carolina Alvarez & Andrew Svoren.

–Silver Foxes Doubles Tournament at AMF Southwest Lanes

The traveling tournament club, Silver Foxes, came to Bakersfield for their May event to AMF Southwest Lanes this past Sat., May 12, to hold a Doubles tournament. There was a total of (58) teams competing with the majority of competitors from Fresno and the coast. This was the second time Silver Foxes has held one of their events at AMF Southwest Lanes. The club had previously been to Bakersfield many years ago and held the event at Regency.

Silver Foxes board member, Barb Francisco teamed up with her husband, Diz and were the highest local team to place and placed 5th missing the roll-off by a mere 17 pins. Sonny Pollard teamed up with Aris Anadilla and they ended up placing 8th. Kelley Allen teamed up with Rick Bowman and got 10th place. Mike Maloy and Bill Field placed and cashed as well. And, Nancy Curran and Brian Maurseth also competed.

The winners of the event were Mark Conro and Nathan Winters from Porterville. The next Silver Foxes tournament is Sat., June 9th, 12 noon at Yosemite Lanes in Modesto. For further information about this club, call 559/381-0356 or talk to Barb Francisco.

–Golden Empire USBC Lane Certification Committee Needs Help!

If you have time to help our GEUSBC Lane Certification Committee they are looking for some local bowlers to become a part of this committee and to help them when they go certify lanes. This is the time of year that this process starts. The committee usually goes out in the morning, or when the center first opens, to perform this task. It takes several hours (depending how many lanes the center has). The committee is currently looking for 4-5 people to help them this season. Thurs., May 17th: “Robb’s Ball League” starts. This popular league has teams of trios, any combo. It bowls for 15 weeks and at the end of the league each bowler gets a ball or equipment of their choice. League bowls on Thursday nights starting at 7pm. (League meeting on first night at 6:30pm.)

– Congratulations to Robert Fox who rolled his second career 300 this past Friday bowling in Sweepers for the Mexican-American Men’s league at AMF Southwest Lanes. Both of his 300 games have been bowled this 2017-18 season.
– Congratulations to Raymond Lussier, of San Jose, who won the 2018 Pete Melton Memorial Scratch Tournament held the weekend of May 5-6 at Bowlero/Rodeo Lanes in Clovis. He credits his Code X ball “from start to finish” on his success at this event.
